H&R Block at Home vs TurboTax

The New York Times released an article about the best home-based tax software.  I think the article was very well written in terms of being relatively unbiased and informative.  I also think they made particularly good mention about who is a good candidate for home-based tax software and why getting professional help may be a good idea.

I've personally used both H&R Block at Home (formerly TaxCut) and TurboTax and found both to be very user friendly programs that will get the job done.  H&R Block is also supported by its national network of tax offices so if you feel a little frustrated, it's a natural lead in to go to an office.  For TurboTax folks, there's a seemless integration from Quicken into TurboTax.  So if your tax matters are simple, or they really haven't changed much over the years and you're looking to save a few bucks - have at it.

But if you want some additional help where you may be able to ask your questions as they come forward - you may just want something more than software.

Many happy returns,

Josh
